    Belgians riot over prison conditions
    Big News Network
    Wednesday 27th September, 2006  (UPI)

The death of an Belgian inmate in an isolation cell has sparked new rioting in Brussels.

Crowds of young people attacked police cars and shops in Brussels' working class Marolles district after 25-year-old Faycal Chaaban died Sunday.

The rioters demanded better prison conditions and more security in Belgium prisons, Expatica News reported.

An autopsy will seek to determine if Chaaban's death was connected to sedatives he received Saturday to relieve what prison officials said was nervousness and agitation. His body showed no signs of violence.

Chaaban's family has asked people in the Marolles district to remain calm, the French Belgian newspaper Le Soir reported.
